Both characters left me feeling a bit disconnected and I don't know why. I should note though that Quinn was more interesting/relatable than Baxter from Sugar Rush by leaps & bounds, probably due to the POVs.Unexpectedly dialogue heavy -- A lot of discussing where each party stood with the other in detail. A lot of honest conversations about feelings -- I would never have expected to like it. At the same time though, the dialogue seemed to come at the expense of any drama whatsoever. The climax was the characters flat out realizing that they were ready to let themselves be happy. Too healthy/realistic for romance perhaps? lolI am usually so furious when authors fall back on that "X betrayed Y's trust by keeping a stupid secret from them" cop-out of a trope that is so common in romance books. It was somewhat refreshing not to see any of that and, although I'm not sure this is the best solution, I am glad this author is at least trying. And so the push for realism continues. This sizzling romance has a little less depth to it than the last two in the series, but it's still a good read. The story is paced nicely. The love scenes come at the right time and the story ends in the right place. There's a lot of dialogue, almost too much, at times. The love scenes seemed like they were pretty steamy so I skipped ahead. All I really wanted were the cupcake recipes. The cupcakes are better than the romance. I like Riley best of the heroines so far.. I can relate to her the most and she has a fabulous dog. Brutus is my favorite character. His scenes always made me chuckle. The author really knows (and must love) big, slobbery dogs. Quinn is a little more human than some of the other heroes. He spends a lot of time lusting after Riley but he's also caring, hard working and passionate about writing. I liked the development of his novel and how he had to choose whether to write the story he knew would sell well or write the story that was in his heart, that the characters wanted him to tell. This is a nice summer read for romance fans. Food lovers. skip ahead to the to-die-for cupcake recipes instead.
