Superworm written by Julia Donaldson is a children's book about a worm who saves all his friends from trouble. Throughout the story he is constantly risking his life to help his friends out. Whether it be saving a bee from the well, or saving a frog from the middle of the road, Superworm does it all! However, when he comes across a couple dark and evil characters, superworm's animal friends be able to pull through and save him! The illustrations in this story are very bright and colorful. There are a lot of details and a lot of background scenes that bring the pages to life. Each page is filled with animals and a colorful background scenery to go along with it. Each page has illustrations that covers the entire page. There are no blank spaces. This story has a rhyming tune that children are sure to love and catch onto quickly. The chorus is fun and corky and lets kids learn it easily so they can sing along. Throughout the story the reader stays on the edge of their seat wondering if super worm will be saved. This story is perfect for young kids because of it's rhyming flow and it's entertaining characters. The readers begin to root for super worm and become very invested in the story. Superworm is everyone's friend, and why not? He is super-versatile! He loves to play with other bugs and small creatures, rescues a baby toad from the road, and even fishes beetle out of a deep well. But then, in a surprising twist, Superworm is kidnapped by Wizard Lizard, and if he doesn't do want the lizard wants, Lizard might feed him to Crow! Oh, no!
