About book Super Dark (2013)

Got this as part of a "buy the complete trilogy with one click" kindle cheapy - and its OK. Definitely a twist on the usual teen supernatural - the author has invented new monsters and their society, but the downside for me was a british author with a curiously american tone to her style. Adding dish soap to the washing up? Anyway - good enough for me to want to know what happens next - so immediately on to Super Dark 2..... For what it is (a young adult novel "for fans of Stephanie Meyer" - somehow I completely missed that last bit or I would have steered well clear), Super Dark is all right. Ms Morse's writing is smoother and less mundane than Meyer's, her dialog - similarly trivial, but to a more tolerable degree. The book does not take a few hundred pages to start - another pleasant surprise. I did skim, giggle or violently roll my eyes whenever the physically PERFECT love interest with catwalk model looks made an appearance and poor Sam kept wanting to do things to his PERFECT body and PEFECT face and PERFECT lips, and they would sulk and throw melodramatic tantrums at each other at EVERY opportunity because heaven forbid we should go through a YA novel without indulging in purple prose and doing the "hot & cold" routine enough times for anyone's brain to rot, but other than that I really did want to find out if I was correct about who's who (I was), and might even pick up the remaining 2 books to see where else she plans to take that particular Urban Monster concept.
