Evan Dawson's book puts a face on the wines you love. Various lakes, various vineyards, and the various winemakers who put their passions into their product are woven into unique and interesting stories. The author's journalistic and narrative talents provide a "behind the label" look at the passionate individual, and collaborative, efforts to create world class wines in the Finger Lakes region of NYS. The stories of the people who are living the evolution of the Finger Lakes (NY) wine industry. Reading it for my book club... probably wouldn't have chosen it because the history of an industry is not my first choice for a book (sorry!) But this book was not dry or dull in any way. The personal stories were varied and passionate, there was enough background about wine and technique to explain and interest without getting so technical that a wine-newbie like myself couldn't enjoy it. Dawson has a personal style that made our whole group book ourselves for a wine tour!
Made me much more interested the wines made right here in upstate New York. Good storytelling!
