This book took me quite some time to finish. While I liked it, it was a bit of a slow read. It was a bit "Southern," for my liking. And phrases like "oh sugar" just annoy me. No idea why. However, I really enjoyed the ending, when Luke writes a similar letter as the one him and June each wrote in high school 10 years ago. Super cute. Other than that, while there were definitely some good parts, most of the time Luke annoyed me. He was just so dumb when it came to June and their relationship. First off, this is a good story. I liked it, maybe even a lot. I have many nits to pick about the setting, though. To a Texan, it's pretty obvious this author doesn't know much about the state. (Sultry Springs is obnoxious but endurable for a town name, but Sultry County is nauseating. Texas counties have names like Liberty and Limestone and Jack and Deaf Smith and Brazoria. Names of people or landscape or virtues. Not weather.) And the picky little mistakes were annoying, but didn't really mess with my enjoyment of the story, except like those little "no-see-um" gnat things. It's a good read.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed. Beckett's debut and will definitely read more of her books.
