About book Suddenly Frugal: How To Live Happier & Healthier For Less (2010)

Nothing new here. Basically, this book covers the same ground as others. Very disappointed. (If you read Tightwad Gazette, you will not learn many new things here).Pros: It is written in a nice conversational tone (which is why I kept reading it). There was something I did find intriguing (although, I can't remember what it was).Pro/Con: Suddenly Frugal Seal of Approval. Southwest Airlines? Soda machine? Seriously? I don't know about you, but I don't need a soda machine. Composting was a better thing to get a Seal of Approval. The brand thing bothers me because could it be a paid endorsement (she admits to signing up to be a tester to get free products and she is a freelance writer by trade)? Cons: She's a writer for a living so I couldn't decide if she seriously was cheap/frugal or if she was just researching and writing this book. She admits to writing a cheap wedding book. She'd also know how to promote herself so she could get into newspapers and such. I did not get the same feeling from Tightwade Gazette (who I believe was a freelance graphic artist).Great for someone who just "Suddenly" became "Frugal" but not someone who grew up cheap/frugal or has been reading a lot on the topic for some time. I found a few great ideas in this book, one good one being the use of Borax and Vinegar to clear clogged drains. Fantastically frugal idea, and also avoids using those toxic liquid drain cleaners. I give it three stars because some of the ideas were a bit hokey to me. Some of the craft projects and decor ideas were just NOT cool--old cds as coasters and christmas tree ornaments, and toilet paper roll christmas wreaths. No thanks. I'll definitely reference this book in the future when I need frugal inspiration.

I usually get a kick out of books like this, but this one didn't teach me anything new.
