About book Stormchild (2010)

This is the first in a three part series. This series is a bit different from what we may be used to because all three books follow the same couple. Laurin and Matt meet and immediately start a fire between them! The first and second books leave you wanting more but that’s just because there is more. They may be short but these are very hot and they manage to get hotter as they go along. Vivian does a wonderful job wrapping them up in the end. So far Vivian has yet to disappoint me. This is the first of three novella's in a new paranormal erotic romance series by Vivian Arend. This is actually the first paranormal I've read by her, but I've enjoyed her few contemporary erotic romances. As some of the other reviews have mentioned, this is a short novella, but the three together essentially make one full length novel and that's how I recommend reading them. This first novella leaves the love story pretty unfinished, but it continues nicely and has a more complete arc throughout the other two. The story is of Matt and Laurin. Matt is a shaman and shifter among the water shifters, who are a group of shifting clans, each of which shifts to a different water based animal (orca, otter, dolphin, etc). As a shaman he can heal both physical and spiritual ailments and can shift into any of the water species. Laurin is of the air shifters, which are a group of clans that shift into various species of birds. She also has powers beyond the average shifter and together they discover that both their love and their powers are stronger than they would have imagined. I have to admit the first story was a little harder to get through than the other two, primarily because the flow was a little off in places -- flowing from conversation, to internal dialog and adding in world building info got a little choppy at times. But the hot chemistry and love scenes made up this for me. I probably would have given this 3.5 starts if I could, but I decided to round up, since the rest of the series (and did I mention how good the love scenes are?!) makes any flaws in this book worthwhile.
