A sweet short story depicting an enslaved prince, rescued and falling in love with his rescuer, his new master. There's little plot - just the race to get to safety, get away from the kingdom that imprisoned the prince. It is largely about the prince growing from a manchild who has had all will beaten from him for over 10 years, back into a human. And that journey is never really completed. It is an interesting idea, although the mistakes in this short work weren't impressive and it ended before it went far enough.2.5 stars. In a way there is little enough story in this, a boy of royal blood taken in war is rescued ten or more years later. By then he has become a creature shaped by his environment, that of a slave brutalised and held to ransom against the cooperation of his homeland. The tale is told from the boy's perspective. The horror is in what you are not told, in the details of how he survived those first shocking years to become a young adult exhibiting the thoughts and reactions he has when he meets the other main character in the book, Eli who rescues him. The beauty is in how both emotionally and physically Micah is awakened. This book is described as an erotic romance on the cover, and in true life I doubt his family would be so understanding of his situation, (he is damaged goods) but as a reader of fantasy this is a light read that I will return to again.
