This picture book is for children at reading levels at ages of 5-8. this book is about Horace Pippin who loved to draw pictures for his friends or family members. During World War One he served in the military and would keep drawings that he would do down in the trenches until he got wounded. This is a great book I would use in my classroom to show examples of racism and poverty. It would also benefit the students to learn about the war and the disabilities war veterans have. This book would be great to read to children to teach them about never giving up. The story within this book is an amazing one and I think students will really enjoy it. Some kids might relate to it in not giving up on something. This book teaches children about perseverance and how to overcome something. This is one of the good children’s biography’s. Students can learn so much from this book and the teacher could do so much with it.
I had not heard of Horace Pippin and am interested in finding more examples of his artwork.
