I enjoyed this for the most part. It was pretty predictable, but was still an enjoyable read. It was very sad at times and got me to cry here and there. Overall though I think it went on a bit too long for me. I thought the Mormon religion was given a bit of a bad rap in this book. Being a member and also being pretty open to how weird we can be sometimes I just feel like I have to defend my church a bit here. The way one of our MCs is treated in this is not how the whole of the church treats family that has decided the church is not for them. I'm sure sometimes that isn't the case, but it isn't what is taught. Other than that though I think this is a pretty nice little read if you like novels that just explore human nature. I'd read another book by this author. Overall I really enjoyed this book, with just a few nitpicks. My impression is an easy read exploring difficult topics in an approachable manner. A miscarriage and resulting infidelity, a child losing her mother and a husband his wife, were all handled in a way that allowed me to keep reading the book without being horribly depressed. I also enjoyed the skiing descriptions-I haven't skiied in awhile, but when I did I loved the feeling of being on top of the world, and then speeding down a mountain. The mountains, nature, feeling closer to God, the tree wells ;)....The author captured those moments very well! My minor nitpicks start with two spelling issues I found. It's "dawdle", not "doddle". I'd think even a spell-checker would catch that! Also, it's not "wa-la", it's the French "voila". I expect that on Facebook or a message board, but not in a book! I also would've liked to see more of David in the first part of the book. Without some direct contact, he was rather stereotypical and not very well developed, especially for someone so critical to the plot.I was left uplifted for the next day, and a feeling of being spiritually-enriched for having read it.
