About book Sophie's Secret (2012)

This book was decent. It had a nice premise. My main concern is that her and her friends abilities seem to be tacked on to an otherwise mediocre teen-drama plot. This is definitely a book for someone who enjoys a nice little teen-high-school-crush story. It's all about the boys she likes, the girls that spread rumors, what it's like to not be cool and to be cool. Included with the hard to bite lessons about self respect and all that. It was a bit bland for my taste, I felt like the primary drive of this book was just to preach about self worth and I was being hit over the head with it. I wasn't into the main character or her friends, because their problems seemed trivial and brought on by themselves. There are so many things that could have been taken out of this book, and it wouldn't have made any real difference at all. There are so many things that could have been added, and should have been added, that would have made this book better. It felt like I was reading either an unfinished novel, or a very private- albeit very whiney- teenage girl's diary. Which, since that's not the intended setup, is not a good thing. This book was honestly a "really shitty love story a "twist" " kind of book. I found this story on wattpad or whatever when I was in desperate need of a good read and this was not it. This story is about Sophie, a girl who apparently used to be an awkward girl in middle school. She's now in high school and she wants to gain the attention of this really cute football guy (Jake I think his name was?), but her friends don't like him. At the end, she ends up going with Frankie, the hottest guy in school - at least I think so because I honestly didn't even finish the book. The twist is that Sophie can read minds and her friends also have superpowers. Anyways, the reason why I hated this book is because in my opinion, the plot went nowhere. The story was so jumbled and all over the place. I couldn't even understand what was going on. And it's the same old thing "the most popular boy crushing on the awkward nerdy girl". And the superpowers that they have are so random. They could've gone on with the book without even mentioning them. Ugh. Let me know what you guys think.
