About book Sophie Scholl And The White Rose (2011)

Despite the title, this book is more about the White Rose in general and less about Sophie Scholl in particular. The book covers the background and actions of all the core members of the White Rose and as such provides a good summary of the events surrounding them. The writing is good overall although a bit tedious in places. There are several good black and white photographs in the center of the book as well as all the White Rose leaflets (including a draft published here for the first time) and some supporting court materials in the appendix. I had never read a book on the White Rose before, although I was familiar with much of their story from other sources. If you are looking for one book to outline all the basics, I believe this is the one to get. This can be a tough one to get through. The subject of the book, to start, is dark of course, but it's also so detailed that it can be slow going. I had to go back and re-read paragraphs a few times to make sure I wasn't missing any information. That's how the story gets you though, although it can be slow to get through, you still don't want to miss a beat. It's that good. This is an eye-opening story to one of the many happenings of Nazi Germany during WWII.
