About book Somewhere Towards The End (2008)

Having read and enjoyed "Stet," this author's memoir of her great career as a book editor, I grabbed this book when I saw it. It then sat on the shelf awaiting its turn, and was packed away with all the other books that went into storage during the world's longest move. Having just now unpacked it, I thought, 'Hey, I know this will be a good read,' and sure enough, it was. All about getting/being older, so you know it will not be all fun and games, but still a pleasure to read, and illuminating, too. Just makes me want to go read everything else she has written, but at the same time, one of those cases where I should not rush, because it is nice to know there is more of this author's work to discover. A young person might enjoy this book, but I suspect it is more likely to be appreciated by those over the age of 55. Then again, it might provide helpful insight for young folk interacting with those of advanced age (the author was in her eighties when she wrote this). Oh, what do I know? Read it if it sounds interesting, then let me know what you think. Really interesting perspective, woman of 80 odd who reflects honestly and frankly on her life, choices, regrets and views. Lovely simple take on a perspective of a (nearly) full life which is very varied. She makes choices I could not live with and some I may live though, giving you something to think about. Really interesting takes on death, sex as you age, and since the book group review - a really funny take on driving when you cant really see. Topics I'll never touch on with my Nana so a 'conversation' I've been let in on that whilst doesn't concern me, provides a whole different outlook on living.
