Another P&P variation, this one taking place when after Elizabeth refuses Darcy's proposal, her father dies suddenly. Close to a year later, Lizzy is working as a governess for a wealthy family in London and finds her employers are acquainted with Darcy. Elizabeth travels with the family to Pemberley and Darcy's feelings for her have not changed while she begins to know him better and to fall in love with him--however, her circumstances have changed so much, it seems that she may be too late. This is a decent variation--I really enjoyed the first part of the book but it drug a bit towards the end. Still a sweet story and one P&P variations fans would enjoy. Loved this adaptation to Pride and Prejudice! Elizabeth has become a governess since her father's death and the Collins family moving into Longbourn. The Willstone family she works for is very kind to her, even letting her join in many family celebrations. When Mrs. Willstone's sister, Rosalyn, comes to stay with the family, she becomes fast friends with Elizabeth since they are close in age. Rosalyn tells Elizabeth of a mysterious man who lived close to her as a child that she has always loved. One evening Elizabeth encounters Mr. Bingley and Miss Georgianna Darcy at the Willstone's home. Miss Darcy has a faint acquaintance with Rosalyn. Within the next few days Mr. Bingley pays a call on Jane Bennet, who is living with her aunt and uncle Gardiner in London. He still seems to have high regards for Jane. This causes Elizabeth some guilt since she believed that Mr. Bingley and Georginna Darcy were engaged. A few nights later, Darcy comes to the Willstone's home with his sister after learning that Elizabeth is there. Later on, the Willstone's receive an invitation to visit at Pemberley with a few other guests. At the time that Elizabeth is getting ready to go with the Willstone family to Pemberley, Mr. Bingley asks Jane to marry him, so Elizabeth goes to Pemberley with a guilty heart. Mr. Darcy and Miss Darcy treat Elizabeth with the utmost kindness, not seeing her as below their station. Meanwhile Rosalyn is obsessed with gaining Mr. Darcy as a husband, which makes Elizabeth feel very uncomfortable. During her stay there, she sees Darcy as the true man that he is... kind, compassionate,and caring. The Willstones notice the closeness between Darcy and Elizabeth and tell her that they do not wish Mr. Darcy to spend so much of his time with their governess. When Darcy finds out that the Willstones have made Elizabeth leave to go to London when she receives news of Lydia running away with Wickham. Of course Darcy takes care of this problem, as in the Pride and Prejudice story. Finally after Elizabeth lives with Jane and Bingley when they are married and live only 3 miles from Pemberley, Darcy and Elizabeth finally get married. And the story continues...
