About book Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She's Dead (2011)

First let me say I read / listened to this book in audio format via audible.com. I always choose audio books when I can get them as the narration breathes life into the stories almost like a heart beat! Audio books also leave me hands free to do other things such as chores and walking and also make great road companions for long trips! I loved this book! It was fun, witty, mysterious and a paranormal to boot! I loved how the spells all rhymed. I really enjoyed how they sang for her birthday in the bar too. I smiled thru most of this book, it was so much fun! I really loved Gus! Gus makes a perfect friend. Every girl needs a Gus in her life! Somebody tell Aunt Tilly She Is Dead, (book 1) is a hilarious, witty tale about witches and spells. The story opens up with Mara, having the worst time of her life or so it seems to her. With her getting evicted, losing her job and not having money to pay bills or find a new place to live. Mara practices Wicca and her recent tarot cards warned her of death. Mara casts a spell to get her a place to live. Just when Mara thought life couldn't get any worse, it does. Mara's Aunt Tilly died and left her a home in Wisconsin in her will. Funny, Mara never even heard of Aunt Tilly until now. Soon Mara learns it was witchcraft that left her the house and killed Tilly. It was one of Mara's spells. There was another character I liked & I feel is worth mentioning and that would be the toad that did belong to Gus, but Gus swears the toad insisted on moving with Mara. Once Mara arrives to her new home, she learns Tilly never left and is quite angry at Mara for killing her. Tilly also informs Mara of the witches to come and the one she calls "The Devil"... The author Christiana Miller did a fantastic job writing this book. OMG, this was so much fun to read! I was glued to my chair listening to this book. I even busted out laughing several times. The narrator Marie Rose did an awesome job delivering this story to us too! With all her multiple voices and those accents!!! The accents sounded authentic! Yes, I liked it. It was a bit slow starting, with some side stories, but it was gripping enough that I stayed up late to finish it. I always appreciate books that have a more humorous tone, I hate the seriously anxiety filled stressy books, so this was a nice surprise in that way. The gay best friend was a great character, as was the toad.I didnt quite understand her tolerance of Aunt Tillie (who in fact knew perfectly well she was dead) or why Tille (nor some other dead family members who visit) don't just tell her about the danger. They could easily have been clearer and helped more. But I loved the mixture of wicca and voodoo, and the whole wheel of other magical cultures thrown in there too. It was a fun read, not too long, which I also appreciate, and kept me entertained to the end. Probably not suitable for under 15's though!

Do You like book Somebody Tell Aunt Tillie She's Dead (2011)?

Not as good as I hoped. Very disjointed and what was supposed to be humorous was just bad.
