Heart-warming story of man and cat. I've been on an animal memoir kick for a couple of years because I enjoy listening to them in the car with my son (mom-teenager bonding--gives us something to talk about). "Bob" rises to the top because the book also sheds light on what it means to be homeless and to struggle with addiction. The cat truly did "save" James Bowen. There is some street language in the book, something to be aware of if you plan to share with a child. More child-oriented versions of the book have also been published. When I first told people I wanted to read the infamous 'Bob Books', I had a mixed set of reactions. Some told me they were childish whilst others warned me that it'd make me re-evalute my life choices and consider getting a companion of my own. Due to these mixed reactions and reviews, I too was unsure whether or not I wanted to read the books or not. However, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the first few books. It's safe to say - I was not disappointed.A Street Cat Named Bob: How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets - is not only a book with a very long title, but its very underestimated and definitely not 'just about a cat'. It follows the life of the author, James Bowen, on his daily life of busking and getting through the recovery of a serious drug addiction. However, one day he soon comes home and finds a bundle of fur that soon becomes his best friend. Destiny? Maybe. Although there is a rocky start for the two of them, whether thats them deciding they're right for each other or the bullies and critics that come with it, inevitably the two become close and soon fall into each others daily routines. It comes to a point where Bob accompanies James on his daily life of busking and earning money, moves into his quant flat and becomes a major part in James' recovery. James had been everything: homeless, a heroin addict and a beggar. Now he was on the road to recovery, busking to earn money and with very few friends to rely on. He was seeking drug support and recovery aids from a unit that would hand him prescription drugs in order to cushion the blow of his feelings. Despite going through hell and back, the small feline and companion that is Bob, made James realise that there is hope in the world.As an animal lover and someone who likes the harsh reality of life, this book pretty much had everything that I enjoyed. I enjoyed reading the brutal and heartbreaking things that James went through in order to get to where he is now, and I was comforted in the appraisal of Bob and how it was down to Bob that James got to where he is now. I know the plot is, apparently, far from being fake, so the drama that was entwined within each page was very dark and highlighted the truth behind how someone whose recovering has to live his life. It also highlighted and portrayed how horrid some people who live in London can be as well as showing me that the law can be very unfair at times. I'm unsure at what age this book is aimed towards. Although it may appear to be a happy ever after linked with a lost cat, there are some very dark passages. The ongoing mentioning of drugs is definitely too sinister for a young reader however the swear words within the novel are blanked so that only those familiar with the words could understand. It makes it confusing for me to decipher who the target audience are, however the book flows well. The way the book is written is simple enough for someone to engage with but be hooked. Although the book, inevitably, is an autobiography by the author in terms of his drug addiction and recovery, as well as maybe being an biography of the street cat, it doesn't read like that which made me question some events of the novel. I think this book was enjoyable however I don't think I'd read it again one day when I'm bored. It was quite tough to get through and its hard for me to decide whether thats because there were some points that dragged on or because the events were so harsh that I needed to come away before diving back in. The book is really underestimated or overrated and I believe that there are some things that the book lacked, however I can't really put my finger on what exactly. Therefore, I really think that maybe I just didn't get along with this book.

First of all, I'm not gonna say anything how it was written, that's it.Non Spoiler Review:I'm not normally so very fond of Non-Fiction books (or anything near that could've been real). I am all in for Fantasy and Sci-Fi. So this book was really hard for me to pick up at first. One of my relatives had said it was a really good book and they said I could borrow the book, so I did. Took me one and a half weeks to finish it.The beginning was really hard for me to read and get interested. But the further I got into the book, the more it got really heavily more interesting. It's always like that but I usually but some stuff away after the first taste if I didn't like it. You learn to like it.The book was interesting in the regards of it was from his perspective and thoughts, and his alone. That was the part that kept me continuing reading (not only because of Bob), his thoughts and thinking.This was a Spoiler-Free review so I'm gonna leave it like this.

This book was so cute and so adorable and I just loved it a lot.It was a wonderful story about an amazing cat and a man who was willing to sacrifice to take him in his life. Animals are great and they can change your life if you let them. I know from experience. Our family changed a lot since we took a stray. He can be crazy sometimes but he's so attached to us, it's crazy. The same goes for Bob, he loves his owner and of course he wants to stick around. They take care of each other and that's wonderful :3Paws up!
