This story is about a little boy who wishes that he could keep his snowman that he built in the winter with him all year long. He goes through various activities that he would do with the snowman like fly kites, go to the zoo, and ride roller coasters. They would play pretend and become pirates. This book goes through each season and the different things they would do together during each season. The snowman would become his closest friend. In the end, the little boy hopes that this winter magic snow has fallen and the snowman that he makes will stay with him all year long.This book was intended for prekindergarten through first grade children. It is written in rhyme, but in very developmentally appropriate for younger kids.I believe that this book is a good fit for my classroom because it allows children to take an object that they are familiar with and open their minds to other possibilities. It also lets children use their imagination and think about "what if" this could really happen.I would use this book in my classroom during the winter time. It keys into that specific time of year, so it allows children to make connections. I could also use it when we learn about the seasons. I have an idea for an activity that would have the children drawing pictures of what of activities they would like to do with their snowman if he could be around all year long. This book could be used for a variety of activities throughout the year. This book can be paired with Buehner's other snowmen books to show setting. I actually saw my cooperating teacher do this lesson. She read one of the snowmen book in its entirety, while also pointing out the writer's description of the setting. Then she read the beginning of two other snowmen books to show the students how writers can write about the setting at the beginning of their story to get readers excited about where the story is taking place.
