About book Slated (2012)

I'm writing this review on my phone, so please be gentle.'Slated' is a book that probably sounds a lot cooler in English than it does in German, but after I got used to the strange bilangual terminology (that the author doesn't have any part in, I'm aware of that), it was a very enjoyable, fast-paced read. It's fascinating to watch Kyla peel away the layers of her world and there is an omnipresent sense of dread. I especially like the fact that you as the reader never quite know whom to trust and whom to hate, because everyone in this world seems to have their own agenda, which is very realistic in my eyes. The romance evolves slowly and I had no objection to it - that's usually the part that ruins young adult books for me. It didn't this time. What did ruin this book for me was the ending. The writing serves the story well for it's majority, which can be a bit repetitive at times, and puts a lot of emphasis on very mundane parts of life. But in the more dramatic moments I felt it didn't succeed in properly building the tension, everything always happened very quickly, and thus it ruined the impact of those scenes a little bit.The writing choices for the final revelation scene I do not understand at all. It's a stark contrast to the rest of the book and it seemed comical, even though it's obviously meant to be the final and lasting impression on the reader. Had it been done differently, my rating would have been higher. Also it has lowered my enthusiasm to hunt down and read the other books in this series, because I'm smelling another "let's go throw over the government"-kind of story and a) that's not what made me read this book and b) I seriously doubt that it will work in this style of writing. Slated is an amazing story set in the near future about a 16 year old girl named Kyla Davis a.k.a Lucy Conner. She lives in a scary version of England where everything is observed and controlled and there is no where to hide.We don't know why, but Lucy has had her mind erased and has become Kyla. She now has to wear a Levo which controls her emotions; if she gets too angry or sad and the readings are too low, she will black out.The main characters are Kyla, Amy, Sandra and David Davis, Kyla's new family, Ben Nix, her friend, Jazz and Dr Lyslander. My favourite character is Sandra Davis because she is mysterious and sometimes she is kind and caring and you feel you can trust her, other times she is strict and harsh and you feel you can't trust her.My favourite part is when Kyla is having a check up at the hospital and terrorists attack. Kyla goes up to her old room at the hospital and she finds out about of what happened to a girl from her class named Phoebe Best who was taken by Lorders (Lorders are people who work for the government to stop the terrorists). This is my favourite part because it is the most dramatic and quite scary.I really liked this book; it was great to read and is the first in the series. I would recommend this book to mature readers aged 12 +years old. If you liked Hunger Games you will definitely like Slated.

Do You like book Slated (2012)?

Imagine having everything you know how to do is completely erased. The parents, your name everything is gone. You have been Slated.Kyla had been Slated, but she's a bit a different. But the government is giving her a chance to be free as long as she plays by their rules. But when she starts to get close to, questions arise that she wants answers. That is a dangerous game that Kyla is willing to play.Along the way I was suspicious of some people. They were giving me creepy vibes and I wanted to know if they were answered. But I think that I will get those answers in the next book. I loved the way the flashbacks came slowly and increased as the book. Final Thoughts:I was intrigued from the start and with everything that has happened so far. I want to know what is going to happen next with Kyla. I just found out shortly (like half way) through the book that this is a trilogy. Now I can see with that ending I really want to read this.

Kyla's has been slated. Her memory wiped away, she remembers nothing and that is what the government wants. To be slated, you must have been a criminal. You wear a levo around your hand which keeps your mind away from any violent thoughts. If your levo gets too low, you black out and can die. It is Kyla's second chance... her last chance. She has been placed in a family with a sister named Amy, who has also been Slated. Her mother is not who she thinks she is. Kyla wants to know why she has been slated, why she had to stay in the hospital for 9 months instead of 6, and she wants to find out why she is different. She wants to know why her Levo doesn't drop when she get cut. It drops for everyone else but here. As more and more innocent people start disappears because if the government, will she discover what is going on and who she is? Slated it about trust, adventure, self-discovery, and hope.
