About book Sinner's Creed (2012)

Sinner’s Creed is surprisingly a good read. I checked it out at the local library but kept putting it off. Finally, I reluctantly picked it up and started reading it. Scott Stapp was quite candid in this book. He discusses his growing up years and his admiration for his grandfather. He tells of wanting a father and happy to welcome his mother’s new husband as his father, whom even adopts Scott. His step father becomes abusive and quotes scripture to make himself seem as though what he was doing made him a good Christian. Scott tells of his struggles with his faith with God through the years. Then getting kicked out of college and then ultimately starting a band that eventually became the successful Creed. Scott becomes addicted to prescription drugs, attempts suicide, and becomes an alcoholic. He becomes a single father and discusses how he managed that on the road touring with his band. The band breaks up that causes many hard feeling between members. He continues to struggle with his faith through it all. After years of prayers, he meets and marries his lifesaver. What an inspiring, faithful, and amazing woman. The book, also, includes song lyrics that Scott had written. He really does have a gift with words.I think this book is a good book to recommend to others.4 ½ stars. I'm not what you would call a Creed fan. I enjoy their style of music but just never made that strong connection to them. Knowing there was always the debate of whether they were a Christian band or not a Christian band, the title of the book grabbed my curiosity. I'm glad I took the time to read it. It tells of a man who has struggled through his life to find true peace. He has faced the challenges of success and failure and has come to the place where he can forgive himself and others. He still pursues the music and passion for the band Creed. It would be my prayer that he continue to stay grounded, fight the demons that would take him down and live the happiness of his true creed. The book is an easy read and I like that his lyrics are written at the end like a beautiful book of poetry.
