About book Silverlicious (2011)

First, I would like to say that I enjoy ALL of Pinkalicious books. I would use this story to teach students how to make predictions. I would demonstrate this by reading the title and making a prediction about the book based on the title and illustration on the front cover. I would explain to my students that predictions require making new connections using prior knowledge. Silverlicious is about Pinkalicious losing her sweet tooth. She had written the tooth fairy a letter asking for something sweet but the tooth fairy was busy with another child so she sent her friend Cupid to get the job done. Pinkalicious was not satisfied. In fact, she wrote a letter to cupid saying the candy(red hots) he brought were disgusting and asking for something else! Cupid was so hurt that he did not come back. The Tooth fairy sent another friend, the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny brought Pinkalicious Jelly Beans but she did not like them either. Pinkalicious wrote the Easter Bunny a letter saying she did not like the jelly beans. Elf #351 tried to help but she was mean to him as well. Tooth-a -tina finally came to leave Pinkalicious a letter and 3 silver coins. The letter was simply telling Pinkalicious that sweetness comes from within. Pinkalicious thought about all of the mean things she had done over the past few days so she wrote a new note. Apologizing to Tooth-a-tina friends for the mean letters. She invited them to come back. She was excited when she realized that the 3 coins were made of chocolate. This story teaches a letter about being kind. Pinkalicious was so worried about getting something sweet that she wasn't being sweet at all. This story was in my classroom library so I decided to read it. Seeing that my students couldn't read yet, I decided to read it to them and they loved it! I could use this story to help my students understand that everyone will lose a tooth. Silverlicious is such a great book for kids to read! In this book Pinkalicious thinks she has lost her sweet tooth and is scared she will not be able to taste anything sweet again. She begins to write letters to the tooth fairy to ask if she can have her sweet tooth back. In the end Pinkalicious learns that being sweet is all about being kind to others. This would a be a great book to introduce the importance of writing letters. I could break down the compnents of writing a letter and have the students write a letter about anything the want.
