One thing I love about this author is I don't have to worry about reading them "in order", however, this one could use a sequel. Will Harry and Maura live happily ever after? I suppose after the excitement of this story, nothing they could do would compare. Harry's wife was having an brain aneurism repaired in the morning. The ward was very full and the person in the next bed was (Maura) going through alcohol withdrawal after head surgery from a drunken fall down the stairs. Harry was visiting after hours and went to get his wife her favorite chocolate malted. In the hour he was gone, someone went in and slipped something into her IV, but the only one who saw him was "the drunk"! Read any one of Michael Palmer's books and you'd be afraid to ever get sick again!
It gets more like 4 1/2 stars but it is a great book for someone seeking a mystery/thriller novel. There was a few moments when his style of writing jumped into the past not letting you know this and you're stuck trying to figure out who this new character is you're reading about is constantly flipping back and forth through the chapter to see if you've missed something only to find out at the very end of the chapter it's another name for one of the established characters it's just he had a secret past. Other than small co fusions like that, the story line itself was very good and towards the end incredibly intense.
It's been a long time since I've read a book like this. The author is so good and articulate. I was so engrossed in the book that I had to cut corners to keep on reading it. The characters there too are amazing! Every thing looked so real! The author is good, I mean that good! I won't say anything more than this, I want to keep the suspense in and not let the cat out of the bag. Once you pick this book up, I can assure you that you will not put it down. The first chapter alone is captivating! The author is a good writer! Silent Treatment is amazing!

This is the longest I have taken to finish a book this year. Just as I could not find a reason to put it down once I started reading, I could not find a reason to pick it back up again once I did. Days would pass before I decided to give it another go - and I have no apparent reason for having such ambiguous feelings towards it. I usually quite enjoy Palmer's work... Maybe I'm just over him now? Too much of a good thing and all that. Also, the countless typos in this specific edition was like a thorn in my side. Shocking, really.
