About book Show Of Evil (1996)

This book I found, if memory serves well, again with the "schizophrenia" keyword from my library's database. I wanted to read a detective novel for a change, and the keywords seemed interesting so I picked up this book. Naturally it then turned out that it had nothing to do with schizophrenia, but dissociative identity disorder. The library should revise their keywords.Despite this misleading information, it was a semi-good book. I enjoyed the plot, but not the characters. There are these typical types in many American action books - some kind of "badass", successful, fearless men who crack witty jokes even when they're in dangerous situations and belittle those who fear. I can't stand that kind of characters, because it's very false. Not many people would react like that in real life. And then there's always the beautiful women. But as I said, I quite enjoyed the plot even if certain scenes seem useless now afterwards. The plot is the thing that made me sit through this 400-page book in just a couple of days. Felt thrilled all the way to the ending.

Do You like book Show Of Evil (1996)?

This is the sequel to "Primal Fear." By the standards for a sequel, it's pretty good. It's interesting to see where Diehl takes Martin Vail, the attorney and main character from the first book. However, it suffers from the what sequels traditionally suffer from, too, namely that certain things seem like a re-tread of ground already covered and there is an expectation of a surprise ending given the big surprise at the end of the "Primal Fear." It's still an enjoyable read it you liked the first book, just don't expect to be blown away.

If you've read Primal Fear, then you have to read Show of Evil. It's brilliant.I've looked everywhere for a paperback copy of this book, translated in my language, and I couldn't find it. So I had to read an ebook copy and I HATE reading ebooks. That's why it took me forever to get through the first 100 pages and then, after a few months of not reading it at all, I decided to resume reading 2 days ago. This time, I didn't even feel like I was reading an ebook; I was there, in the middle of all the action. I could see Stampler, I could sense the fear in his victims, everything was so captivating, so fascinating. I finally finished reading it today and I was stunned. The way Diehl could transform a regular ending into a brilliant one, in just one final sentence... It left me speechless. I probably would have given it 4 stars, but the ending was so unexpected I had to give it 5.
