About book Shot Of Tequila - A Jack Daniels Thriller (2010)
I've read several of the Jack Daniels mysteries before and enjoyed them. However this book, Shot of Tequila, written earlier in JA Konrath's career before he created the Jack Daniels character, is even better. The central character in this book is Tequila, a debt collector for a loan shark named Marty the Maniac, and he's riveting. A former Olympic gymnast who now inflicts mayhem on deadbeats so he can pay for private school for his old sister with Downs Syndrome, Tequila is both appealing and scary in equal measures. I'm surprised that Konrath didn't write more books using Tequila. There's a lot more action in this book than the other volumes in the Jack Daniels series---and that's a lot of fun. Loan shark collector Tequila Abernathy is framed by a coworker for stealing a big payday from his boss. Jack comes in on the case trying to solve other related incidents. Tequila's boss and coworkers come after him throughout the story, only managing to injure him, while he kills just about everyone else. They did kill his sister with Down's and her caregiver so that had enraged Tequila even more. In the end Jack and Tequila work together and she lets him go.It was different reading a Jack Daniels book where she wasn't the main focus of the story. A few spots seemed to drag on a bit though.
