About book Shifting Skin: Killing Them Wasn't Enough (2014)
The first thing this book reminded me of (at 1%) was Silence of the Lambs (movie, not book) killer, Buffalo Bill. But it took till I got to the 90% mark to figure out if I was right or wrong. This book contains British slang & spellings, I didn't know 'cheers' meant 'thank you'. I felt this book was very slow paced. The murders happen early, and you are living thru every step and questions that are happening. You're led to maybe a side plot, not sure, cause at 75% and know nothing more than I knew at 10%. It does pick up at the 80% mark, so you can skip ahead, and not miss much.A pet peeve I have in any book are timelines. At first I thought it was 'present' say 2014, assuming when it was published. The main character was 21 in 1991, and he's 40, so it's 2010 - but the book references flip phones, faxes, newspaper and vcr. I also thought the storyline of the gay partner was cliché, and a bit 80's. I mean, I knew what a Prince Albert was as I partied during the 80's, so I have to believe a cop in London who is 40, should know what one is..... As for the plotline, I felt the ending was a complete cop out. I don't know if the next book would pick up on why the murderer did what he did, but this book sure never gave a reason. Since this was the 2nd book, and it seemed completely independent, it only referenced a previous case/killer and how they didn't get along, which I only guess, was the 1st book.
The Belle Vue butcher is terrorising Manchester by killing his victims and removing their faces. Jon Spicer is assigned a new partner, Rick who attempts to rein in some of Spicer's more maverick tendencies.Fiona Wilson finally runs away from her abusive husband but whilst she is seeking refuge at a motel is convinced she hears a prostitute being killed. She makes it her mission to seek out the truth of what happened in the room next door to her, ignoring the dangers she faces. Spicer has pressures at work as well as trying to deal with his partner, Alice who is late in pregnancy. A fast paced story which had a bit more depth than some murder mysteries.

Published: 01/08/2014Author: Chris SimmsRecommended for: fan's of crime/detective booksEdition: KindleThis is book number 2 in the DI Spicer series by Chris Simms. I found this book on the Kindle Store for free and so I thought that I would give it a go. I really really enjoyed reading this book, the characters that are in the book are very well described and they are also very realistic/believable. This story is about the way that society looks at people in the modern time. It is the type of book that will make you want to read the rest of the series, it is really well written. I would recommend it to anyone to give it a try.

THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK I’VE READ IN THIS STAND ALONE BRITISH CRIME PROCEDUAL SERIES FEATURING DI JON SPICER. THE WRITING STYLE IN BOOK#1 WAS VERY CONFUSING, HARD TO FOLLOW AND I DID NOT LIKE IT. I’M GLAD THIS BOOK WAS NOT WRITTEN LIKE THE FIRST ONE. I LIKED THE WRITING STYLE BETTER AND IT WAS EASIER TO SORT OUT THE PLOT. I ENJOYED IT AND FOR ME THIS TIME IT WAS REALLY A PAGE TURNER, I DID FIGURE OUT WHO THE KILLER WAS WAY BEFORE THE END. I WILL KEEP READINGTHESE BOOKS AS LONG THEY ARE WRITTEN LIKE THIS ONE. ;D
