About book Sex Criminals, Vol. 1: One Weird Trick (2014)
Ridiculous, sexy, funny, quirky. I really enjoyed this, and I loved the distinct characters, and I also really love when writers get meta with their work (see the "Fat Bottomed Girls" scene-- LOVE!) I feel like it needed a little bit more to really push it into the 5-star range. It felt ALMOST THERE for the entire thing, and then it was over and it's not that I was disappointed, but I wasn't entirely satisfied. I definitely look forward to later volumes. This was pretty decent though it's absolutely meant for MATURE audiences. Sex is graphic and the premise makes you think this could be a train wreck coming with Jon's instability. It's witty, but it's not the smartest graphic novel I've read (maybe I'm biased, but that honor belongs to Alan Moore / Grant Morrison) and not the snarkiest regarding sex and relationships (that would be Adrian Tomine's Shortcomings). In general, it's a decent book with tons of porn and manga-like artwork. I'm not sure where the book is heading, but it's definitely made me curious.
