About book Selfish Reasons To Have More Kids: Why Being A Great Parent Is Less Work And More Fun Than You Think (2011)

Clear writing style, great thesis backed up by lots of research and stats. The stats make the read more work than it otherwise would be, but he does a good job with the flow. The idea is that you should remember to enjoy your children. Having children is not about endless self-sacrifice until you explode from stress. That is actually the worst thing you can do for/to your kids. Just enjoy them. They each have their own personality that you can't change and they will end up making their own choices, so let go of the idea of perfect parenting. Love them and enjoy them. I guess I just expected a much more sophisticated, compelling argument. Instead I finished feeling skeptical and remain unconvinced of the author's basic premise that parenting has little-to-no ramifications in the long run.Sure, I can get on board with the notion that modern parents need to cut themselves a little slack, and I even like that he brings light to the positives of having children. But it ends there. Good parenting is hard work. Rewarding, yes, but to paint it as something we don't need to take all that seriously (the crux of his argument) is false and irresponsible.
