About book Seeds Of Discovery (2011)

It's not that this is a bad book, it's just that it's... not really a guy's book. Basically, there is not really any conflict or antagonist in this book to speak of. The basic story is that of a young highschool girl, who follows a boy through a gate and finds he's from another world, where he's a prince and lives in a castle. The family is very hospitable though. They have thirteen children (ranging from just born to just married) and everybody is just as nice and friendly as can be: blowing bubbles for the younger kids, playing with teddy bears and wrestling on the grass, that sort of thing. Their maid-servant (who is really kind and comes to serve the girl breakfast and see how she's doing even on her day off) offers her a bubble bath. The family invites her to a ballroom dance, they go horseback riding. About the worst thing that happens is they tend to some children who are sick and promise to make popsicles for them (the family has medical experience from our world and the girl gets to help out). Oh, and it turns out that everyone in the kingdom is homeschooled :)The main character is surprisingly nice, playing with children, soft-spoken, quiet, studious, etc. It makes me wonder if this was written by a homeschooled teen who thought it would be fun to travel to another world and see what it's like. At the same time she is kind of...stereotypically "girly"? She giggles a lot, blushes furiously at the drop of a hat, cuts herself on a bush, faints at needles, is queasy at the sight of blood, cries (for a while) when a mean boy bullies her, doesn't really stand up for herself, goes in the middle of the night to her mom's bed after having a bad dream, etc. It really seemed odd to me.I think a young homeschool girl would really enjoy this: just a fun, quaint story of a girl going to a different world where everybody is nice. And that's not a bad thing. Once I started reading this book it seemed as if Quinn just led a normal life and nothing out of the ordinary was going to happen. Even with the almost car accident hitting William Rose. He was mysterious, but it seemed like he just liked keeping to himself. Until Quinn started following him... That is when things got interesting, she followed him at the library she worked at, at school, and she even followed him home. She didn't know why, but ther ewa ssomething about William that she had to figure it out. She became more distant from her friends, she recieved more attention from Zander, and her dreams were becoming more clear to her. She was worried about what she wa sdoing to her friendship with her best friend, but she had to figure out what was going on with William. She followed him one Friday after school where he again disappeared this time she followed closer. Walking over the bridge she had expected to fall into the river when she didn't ahe opened her eyes to find that she was no longer in Brisclecone. She was in a new place a place that she didn't think could possibly be real, maybe it was just another one of her dreams, but then William was there and he was very unhappy with her for following him. Things became even weirder when she found out he was a prince in this new world. She was introduced to most of his family within the first few days she was there. This world was different from hers, one day in her world was ten in Williams. And in that ten days alot had happened, She had attended a naming ceremony for Williams youngest sister, gotten attacked by a prince from another kingdom, went on a trip with William, Thomas, and Nathaniel to neighboring towns to help with an outbreak of a rash that no one could figure out... No one that is except Quinn she figure out that it was from shadeweed the closest Eirenthios had to poison ivy. It stumped everyone as to why it was so hit and miss only affecting children and not more than one in a family. Until Tessa and Thomas both recieved the rash as well. Quinn had figured out that it came came from the history book that the kids had been studying. Just when everything started to get figured out she had to return back to her life in Bristlecone to Zander and her mother and siblings... like nothing happened, but can she keep this secret to herself and will she be able to go on like nothing happened... Until Next time.
