About book Savage Harvest: A Tale Of Cannibals, Colonialism, And Michael Rockefeller's Tragic Quest For Primitive Art (2014)

Pretty fascinating and deep investigation. You kind of get cannibalism (in a way) after reading this. The whole book is a compelling and believable case for the premise that Michael Rockefeller was eaten by cannibals. So it is unfortunate that the author was not able to come up with direct proof; incontrovertible, scientific evidence. He certainly worked hard at it. But the telling of this tale was as circuitous and repetitive as the tale may be told by the Asmat people themselves. Maybe the author spent too much time there... The story is of the Asmat tribe in New Guinea who slowly gave up cannibalism in the 1950's and 1960's. The people themselves seem totally amoral not just by Western standards but by most human standards throughout history. In addition to murder and cannibalism, rape was also common. So Michael Rockefeller really didn't know what he was in for. The book was a fascinating read that was hard to put down and hard to "stomach" in certain parts!

Longer than necessary for a good story. But, overall good.
