Satin and Steel (Riding the Line #2)By: Jayna Vixen5/5 starsSince I’ve seen some reviews complain about this being SOA fan fiction, I thought I would add this acknowledgment. In the author’s acknowledgements, she does say that the Riding the Line series is loosely inspired by the hit TV show Sons of Anarchy and also thanks the show’s creator & director Kurt Sutter and the cast & crew of SOA who inspired her to write this series. Also the prequel, Earning the Cut is now being listed as book #1, so Satin and Steel which was originally billed as being book #1 is now listed as book #2.Dax Jamison is the vice-president of The Phantoms MC in Darling, California. He has become somewhat jaded about his life and has had thoughts of getting out of the MC life when his girlfriend Dr. Trish Wagner is done with her rotations of residency and can get a permanent job.Rhiannon “Rhee” Blake is searching for her missing, younger sister Mickey. Mickey got involved with some guy in a motorcycle club and called Rhee desperate & afraid one night, with a plea to come and pick her up. But, when she gets there, her sister is gone, without a trace. Because of Mickey’s record of running off and showing up days later, the cops don’t take Rhee’s hysterical behavior seriously. So Rhee decides to do her own work, going to biker bars, showing and putting up flyers and asking around about her.Rhee meets Dax when she is leaving one such establishment, and they both leave a memorable impression on her. But when Rhee ends up searching in biker bar where a ruthless MC hangs out, she knows that she is in trouble. Drugged & assaulted and almost raped, she makes an escape that puts her directly in the hands of Dax and The Phantoms.Dax feel protective over the young girl that he had previously met, and takes her home with him so that his girlfriend can check her out and so that she can heal & her system can purge itself of the drugs. Slowly they both begin to feel the slow burn of attraction and desire, but because of his girlfriend, they both keep away from each other.Rhee ends up in need of saving a few times in the book and Dax, Wince and the boys are always there for her. But she wants to continue her search for her sister and knows that she can’t expect The Phantoms to do that, even though they have all come to love and accept her. When things get out of control, Rhee knows that she must focus on her future and that of her family. There is definitely the set-up for another book, which is titled, Leather and Sand, available now! I did really enjoy this book...not quite as much as I'd hoped but well enough to get the next one and read the prequel as well. The story is not as HEA as some since Rhee did not get what she wanted (more than one important thing but I won't post spoilers)...but I am curious to see how it all will play out. At least we don't get jumping into bed scenes right off the bat when you have an injured girl...unlike some other books we have to wait more than halfway in to get some action...but the wait is worth it!! Hot alpha male with a caring side. Too bad they (biker heroes in general) all seem to be cowards and come off as douchebags in the process!
