Interesting and sweet (but not sappy) story of two boys who find each other in the service and make a life together when that wasn't a very easy thing to do. Nice retrospective on their years today and the passing of the torch as it were. Really liked that the author made the characters human and didn't try to insist on perfection but instead confirmed what we all know - that it takes work and dedication and persistence and perseverance to make a relationship that can withstand the test of time and familiarity. This story fit the picture prompt very nicely and was a sweet read. Even though technically this could be considered a historical, it didn’t feel period heavy to me which is a good thing since I’m not a huge historical fan. I enjoyed the journey they experienced from first discovering a desire for boys, to finding each other, to reminiscing 50 years later. Great contribution to the LHNB event – thank you!
