About book Run Like A Mother: How To Get Moving--and Not Lose Your Family, Job, Or Sanity (2010)
I wasn't familiar with Sarah and Dimity before I read this book, though I'm sure I've read what Sarah's written in Shape Magazine. I loved both of them. Sometimes I'm a little more Dimity and other times I'm a little OCD Sarah. This book was a bit sad for me to read while I'm injured and unable to run (4months and counting) but it was a great book and makes me ready to actually do my physical therapy so I can run again. I loved these ladies and am interested in reading their other book. Truly inspirational ladies doing extraordinary things that we can all do too. Great mommy running book. After much ado, I finally finished this book. After reading the first half, I probably would've only given it 3 stars. Now that I've finished (six months later...), I'm not sure if the book became more human, or if I did.Let me explain:The first half made me feel frustrated, annoyed, and (I'll admit it) jealous. Not everyone can hire a running trainer, and it seemed like these two authors had one for every race. Then I got green-eyed at all the talk of cross-training, daily runs, and PRs.My thought was, "This book is supposedly about being an active parent--where are the authors finding all the time and money to train like this? Who's taking care of their kids?"But the second half got into this. It dealt with leaving the house while the kids are begging you to stay. It dealt with how difficult it is to exercise during and after pregnancy, nursing, and the like. And, perhaps most human of all, it dealt with pee, poop, and periods while running (that might sound like a non-recommendation, but seriously folks we all do it--okay, not everybody has their period, but you know what I mean).I'll be passing this book on to another mother-who-runs friend of mine to enjoy.Plus the second half was WAY MORE FUNNY than the first half (like the first half was written sober and the second half written while tipsy). This book also makes me think back to college--man, we had it easy. There was time to do anything we wanted, but most of the student body probably just wasted it. Those were the days...
