I liked the book. It was fast paced. It read pretty much like the actual story (of course with vampires, which was a plus in my book). It reads more like a story and not a play. Which I read Romeo and Juliet at the same time and I found I understood the actual story better from reading this book. (But I am not a person who enjoys plays.)So if you like the story of Romeo and Juliet, and you like vampires. You will enjoy the book. Montague vs. Capulets. Romeo is a Montague. Juliet is a Capulet. She loves him. He loves her. Families hate each other. Capulets are vampires feeding on live stock blood. They can sustain their immortality that way BUT, they lose their strength. Vlad has been impaled. His brother took over (Prince Radu). Radu believes in peace between the waring mortals and the vampires. Juliet is commanded by her parents to marry the second in command, Count Paris who is the right hand man to Radu. Her parents want the marrage to take place to ensure they have their status and fortunes. Juliet is disgusted with this news and just as disgusted when she has to go thru her 16th birthday ritual...to drain the mortal so she can transend from human to vampire. At the ball, the lovers meet for the first time. Instant love and marrage withing a few days by the friar.Love is a rose with many thorns. Romeo accidently kills Juliet's vain and ruthless cousin,Tybalt. It was Tybalt who provokes the fight but because Romeo killed Tybalt in defense of his friend Mercutio. Hence, the whole town is looking for Romeo to punish...by death at Juliet's hands. He will be her sacrifice.
