I loved this book. It was my first Glenn Meade thriller. Now I am starting another since I liked his style so much. It's an intriguing combination of history, humanity and 'thrill.' I didn't think this was a genre I'd enjoy, but now I realize it's just what I was looking for. I enjoyed the experiences of the variety of characters involved in the mystery surrounding the Romanov assassinations. There were quite a few twists and turns. It was pretty cool how the lives of the key characters came together, a US 'spy' an Irish Republican rebel, her lost love who took up with the Brits for a chance to fight the Nazis, various Russians including Reds, Whites, Cheka, peasants, nuns, all sorts. It' s funny how two brothers' convictions can place them on opposite sides of a civil war, in spite the bonds that can never be broken. There is much more. This book kept me reading, rolling right along with mostly interesting characters, satisfactory dialog and even a small hint of a love story. Plus a good deal of history and mystery thrown in as well. And then......I reached the last few chapters. Seemed the author simply outwrote his story, arriving almost at the end and uncertain what to do with it. It felt hurried, unfinished almost. Yes, of course, he did wrap it all up but not in keeping with the earlier storyline. I still rather enjoyed it, hence the 3 stars, but the ending left me feeling almost cheated so I couldn't award it more than that.
