About book Robert Ludlum's (TM) The Bourne Retribution (2014)

As always, a well-written book to continue the Bourne series and tradition. In this book, Bourne is seeking Retribution for the death of the one he loved, Rebekah, who was killed in Mexico City. His friend, Eli Yadin, head of Israel's Mossad, learns that OOyang Jidan, a senior member of China's Politboro and a major Mexican drug lord, may have been trafficking in something far more deadly than drugs. Bourne agrees to investigate this for Yadin, but only because he has a personal agenda. To this day, I recall when I first met Jason Bourne in the pages of Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity. A man fished out of the sea who soon discovers that he does not know who is or anything about his history. Over the course of 11 novels, I have come to know the man who, despite the odds against him always seems to complete his mission. In The Bourne Retribution, he is recruited by Mossad using the lure of avenging the death of Rebekah, a woman he loved and an Israeli agent. His journey in search of revenge takes him to Mexico and then to China, with a brief stop in Russia. At every turn there is someone who wants him dead and, in many of the encounters, it appears that Bourne may be finished, but each time he manages to survive, though not totally whole. He starts in Mexico to work through the wife of a Chinese Minister in order to get to the Minister himself, the man he believes is responsible for Rebekah's death. He ultimately develops a plan to get to the Minister in China during a meeting of Chinese Politburo members in a remote seaside resort. This seems an impossible plan to pull off but, for Jason, is anything impossible? You expect him to exceed against all odds, but this one may be too much to ask.Well worth the time reading the book and getting reacquainted with Bourne not to mention seeing if he can pull off his mission is a place as closed as China. There might even be a twist or two.
