If you want to get in touch with your greedy, shallow, twisted, resentful side, read this book. If you want a typical Maxted book that makes you laugh and cry and go bake cupcakes, don't read it.I takes guts to write characters who are virtuosic in their awfulness. Sure there are far fetched story lines but why not? My only beef is that there is a character who becomes a great actor by being duplicitous and callous, and I think that's actually impossible. Acting requires compassion, and maybe not fierce intelligence but certainly freedom to express true emotion, and this character never had that in real life so I doubt he would have it on screen. But of course that's the criticism of Hollywood - maybe someone could fake it and we wouldn't notice.I also really want the uncut ending. I think Maxted had a lot more to say about what the epic events really meant to the main characters, but some editor told her to keep it cute at the end. As long and ridiculous as this book was, I want the authors cut. :) This was not the Anna Maxted I am used to. This book was much darker - very much different than the wry, light material she usually writes. With that said though, I did still enjoy this book quite a bit. It was well written and had a lot of plot twists and turns. I will admit though, the "bad guy" of the story was one evil character, it gave me the creeps. I would recommend this book to people who like the mystery or thriller genre, but I don't know how much it will appeal to the readers who are expecting a slightly higher class chick lit.
Do You like book Rich Again (2009)?
