About book Reshaping It All: Motivation For Physical And Spiritual Fitness (2011)

This is a practical, motivational, and encouraging book especially directed toward Christians who are struggling with weight and food issues. In many ways it felt like this book was written directly to me. I have been struggling with food and my weight ever since I became a mom. I lack self-discipline and have a hard time seeing it has a lifetime commitment. Sometimes Candace came off as a little bragging- she only had to lose 25 pounds after all- that is like drop in the bucket for some of us, but it was challenging to me and I guess that goes back to my lack in being able to see the bigger picture. The Bible verses really helped especially the one in Hebrews about self-discipline. I am excited to see if any of the challenges really stick with me. I am a major Full House fan, and recently discovered that Candace Cameron Bure has written several books! I was very excited, and even more excited to find that one of her books, Reshaping it All, was available on Audible. Wanting to listen to the book narrated in her voice, I went for this one (even though she has a more current book, Balancing it All).Reshaping it All is mainly about the actress's struggles with weight and her weight loss journey in adulthood. I honestly wasn't in it for the weight loss tips; it was more of an indulgence in seeking an insider look at the real life of the real DJ Tanner.I was happy to find that there was plenty of the biography revealed that I was after. She paints a picture of her life as a somewhat normal kid, going to school and coming home to have dinner that her mom made. It made me sad that to hear that there were some unenlightened kids who made fun of her for playing DJ on Full House. I guess I never thought of the real life DJ as being someone who got picked on.Candace provides healthy recipe ideas and offers practical advice for women seeking to make lifestyle changes and lead healthier lives. She also inundates the reader with Bible quotes, which is to be expected. I am well aware of Candace Cameron Bure's and Kirk Cameron's public Christian faith (you would probably have to live under a rock to not be). I also feel like they both take it a little too far at times, and was hesitant to even read the book for that reason. Sure enough, there were times that I just couldn't take it and needed to take a break. The worst line in the book for me was when she expressed her belief that yoga is spiritually dangerous. This just made me sad, but hopefully she has eased up on this view in recent years. I will try to give her the benefit of the doubt on that one!In the end, I was glad to have listened to the book because I did enjoy, for the most part, hearing about her personal struggles with weight loss and also getting a glimpse into her personal life, past and present. This book would probably be good for someone who is already a fan and who is looking for a book discussing weight loss with a strong Bible focus (but I would take her views on yoga with a grain of salt). I am still interested in reading her other books, however, I will likely have to take a good long break before starting on another one.
