Well written with very compelling characters. Even while I want to smack Galen upside the head I want to know what's going to happen next. The author has created a rich fantasy setting, with a twist I don't think I've ever read before. I'm nervous about reading the remaining; I don't see how this twist can possibly resolve in a satisfying way. However, if she does manage to pull it off, it has the potential to be amazing. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst, I've already started listening to the second book :) In this story, sixteen-year-old apprentice / student scholar Raffi travels with his teacher Master Galen, along with a woman Carys, searching for a ruined city which supposedly holds a relic that could prevent the destruction of the world. Trying to stop them are the evil Watch (cops gone wild), who will stop at nothing to control everything. I enjoyed the mystery, and knowing there were more books in this series allowed me to savor not finding all the answers in this book. My only complaint was that the ending seemed a bit too abrupt. It was sad to see that the Watch's actions mean no one can be trusted. Sounds like today in what used to be a free world.
Do You like book Relic Master (2009)?
Definitely YA fantasy. Good characters, intriguing world, easy read.
