While Ms Anton's books are well researched, at times I just skimmed over a lot of the "Talmud" sections included in all her books. I suppose I cared more about the women than the Talmud that they were learning. And I think if I had not tried to read this triology one right after the other, I might have been more interested in the whole book. I do recommend this series to anyone who is interested in Jewish history and the customs of the 1100s. (Actual rating = 3.5 stars)I actually enjoyed this book more than I expected to. Rachel always seemed to be a spoiled character, and I didn't expect to like her, but I found her to be more interesting than her sister Miriam. Also, I was very impressed with Anton's description of the pogroms in Germany- she made an event that took place almost a thousand years ago sound like it was unfolding before my eyes.
I couldn't get into the story so after just a few chapters, I decided to move onto another book.
