About book Rae Of Hope (2000)

The book was a quick, easy read which was exactly what I was looking for after an exhausting work week. I really liked it because the story is original (though it smacks a bit of xmen), the characters have depth, and it's a really great coming-of-age story. There were also a couple twists that I didn't expect (which, of course, is why they are called plot twists). However, I did not give it five stars because there were some situations in which the characters are totally oblivious to things that I caught on to right away. For some reason I've been reading a lot of books with the same theme - a girl who doesn't know her past because her parents died mysteriously getting accepted to a private, secluded academy that has been around for decades and only accepts students from families with powers. This made me kind of skeptical, but I'm glad my curiosity won!Rae is likable, though not necessarily very relatable. That's fine since I think she grows a lot and seeing her journey helps. The story is narrated from a 3rd person omniscient POV and the pacing is decent. The story ends on a very hopeful note, which leaves me excited to read #2, but also a bit weary.
