About book Rabbityness (2012)

WOW. First off, I think this is some of the best visual storytelling I've seen. Color, line, composition and shape depict emotion in a very real way here. Secondly, we have this cataloged as "rabbits" and "painting" but it's much more than that. I have tagged it "individualism," "loss," "separation," and even "death." What happens to Rabbit? I want more story to hang these unusual illustrations on, but maybe that would ruin the effect. An exceptional picture book dealing with loss and remembrance. Empson's prose also explores being unique and creative. A magnificent read and a great jumping-off point to talk about indepedence and grief. As if all of the above weren't enough, Empson's illustrations, so electric, look ready to leap from each spread. Absolutely lovely use of design and color. Highly recommended. Especially for little ones dealing with death or loss of a loved one.Melisa
