Richard has a true claim to the throne and in the end, tries to become king. He is killed in fighting, and his eldest son, Edward becomes king.This is the story of their childhood together, their marriage, the raising of their family, and their struggles with politics.Excellent, captivating read. LOVED this book. After reading a LOT of the more famous royals of the late medieval/Tudor years, finding this one about Duchess Cecily (Neville) of York, the mother of King Edward IV, was a breath of fresh air. She (and the love story that was her marriage) quickly became a favorite character of mine. Anne Easter Smith's writing is wonderful, a mix of Philippa Gregory and Jean Plaidy... I just might have another favorite author here.
