I am from Mongolia and I always think about what my country should do to make the people happy. And I was eager to find the answer. This book helped a lot. Because of the similarity between those countries except the education. So now I think only the education system could help our country to find out the right path. Since I read this book, I started to think about opening a new school in my country. Love or hate Israel for political/religious reasons, this book remains a must read! It offers insight on nation building without reading like a political science/ public administration textbook. The book is an attempt at explaining Jewish success without eluding to the stereo-typical cliché's of smartness and ripping people off. Instead the book indicates how Israel was able to transfer its military lessons and capabilities developed to survive its existential threat status to its civilian life. It is also an insightful exploration of the Jewish society. Among the questions it attempts to answer are; why the need for a Jewish state? How does a nation born in 1948 on a piece of Arid land, surrounded by enemies become so successful? How did they develop a start up culture? It is a great read on what makes this small nation of 7 million function so well. It does not deal with the issue of Palestine though.
Crappy book. I won't say the authors lie deliberately, but they've definitely been misled.
