Intense, gripping and complex. It took me quite a while to figure out what the villain was doing with the dolls and some of his other tricks confused me too - which is a compliment to the author - she really kept me guessing. The twists and turns right up to the end really did surprise me.I also was happy that the main characters were likable and competent. So often the heroes and heroines in romantic suspense appear to be kinda stupid, but that was not the case here. More important, the characters were complex and interesting. Both Beth and Neil had tragedies in their past but each only revealed them gradually which heightened the suspense and the emotional impact was very strong. This book was somehow scary enough for me to not read it at night before going to bed. Especially with the main character's daughter involved at some point, I only read at daylight - i tend to dream of what I read if it really gets to me.Beth Denison was attacked by a killer, who after he was released out of prison, started to come after her again. Letting her know he's coming closer and closer. Ex-FBI agent Neil Sheridan was asked to join the hunt for the killer and finds himself drawn to Beth who has a secret she'd do anything to keep.The story itself was well told, although some of the details were quite gory. It took me fairly long to finish the book, but mainly as I hardly read when it was dark out - just to be sure.
