About book Pull Me Under (2000)

This was recommended to me and I'm pleased I read it. This is a long read and told from the POV of Benedict (Ben) Jimmer, all star Man U footballer...so it was a nice change to read a story based in Ol' Blighty...not an "ass" in sight...yay! just a few arse's, a couple of bum's, the occasional twat and proper footie!! This is a story of acceptance, Ben's acceptance of himself and acceptance that he is worthy of love - giving and receiving. Ben's POV is insightful and at times funny, especially as he attraction to Henry grows and the need to make their fake relationship "real". Henry, the beautiful with curly hair and tatts, seriously got to love him! The sidekicks - Jake (the loveable Irish rouge team mate and best friend) and Aaron (his publicist) are great. The conversation Ben has with his 16 year sister was a masterpiece, this had me laughing out loud! There are a few things that niggled me: 1) The use of """s...WTF is this??? I'm British, so that's a new one on me if it's "short" for anything. At first I thought it was a typo, but it is repeated numerous time through the 350 odd pages of the book and got very wearing. 2) The chop and change through a chapter. I got whiplash a couple of times trying to time stamp where or what they were doing as one paragraph ended then it seemed they skipped to several weeks later or a different location in the next paragraph. I think better use of chapters or at least announcing at the beginning of the paragraph the change. 3) The miscommunication and misunderstanding between Ben and Henry. I was a little narked that there were two very clear cases of earwigging to conversations and then taking it the wrong way...the last one resulting in the biggest urge to throw my kindle against the wall or at least want to smack the two of them upside the head!!! 4) The ending. It was a HEA, but it left me wanting...really, really wanting....felt a little let down after this very long road I took with them....seriously I needed an epilogue to round it all off...it needed something, riding off into the sunset didn't do it for me at all!Overall, the story overrode the niggles, this is an enjoyable sweet, funny read. It sucked me in and left me with the warm and fuzzies. Enjoy! Ok I just read possibly my book of the year...You know how you read books and you think they are pretty good but then you read a book and you just feel like everything you have been reading recently pales in comparison. Like you need a 6 star rating. This is that book...at least it was for me. It's definitely going on my favourites shelf. I have been waiting for a book like this, that is just right up my alley!I was supposed to be studying today but I could not put it down until I finished it!I can't wait to read more from this author!
