I love how she writes across genres, so I get the best of both worlds. With Promise Me Texas, we’re in the American west in the late 1800s, so I’m going to get my western fix and I’m ready to go on an interesting ride.Beth is part of the McMurray clan, which this series revolves around. She’s grown up on a ranch and raised to be a strong, independent woman. But having been raised in a loving family, she’s also fiercely caring and loyal. The we have Andrew, who pretty much raised himself and then lost his young wife, so he doesn’t want to get close to anyone.But Andrew ‘s plans go awry when he meets Beth in the aftermath of a train crash. She claims they are engaged when he’s injured and an interesting adventure ensues. As they travel across the state of Texas, they collect a menagerie of characters, from two young boys looking for their father, to a young pregnant girl searching for the baby’s father, to a young man running from someone trying to kill him. And throughout this journey, Beth and Andrew find love.I loved the ride I was taken on. It was packed full of action and twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. And of course there was romance. I enjoyed watching the relationship grow and blossom between Beth and Andrew and even though we, as romance readers, know what is going to happen, the journey was fulfilling.As I stated earlier, this is part of a series, but it stands very well on its own. If you’ve read past books in the series, you’ll meet up with familiar characters and if you’re new to the series, you may just be finding yourself hunting out those earlier books. Beth McMurray finds herself going from a fiancé to a husband overnight. Finding out the man she had come to marry was a conniving liar, her plans to escape end up with her finding the true man of her heart. Andrew McLaughlin lives on the outside. Going from one story to another, he skirts life after losing his wife. Finding himself 'wed' to Beth, he finds he wants to have more than a pretend wife.Really a fun read.
