About book Pride, Prejudice And The Perfect Match (2013)
I'm glad I waited until this went on sale for $0.99 'cuz I could not finish this one. I'm heavily skimmed the last 50%, mostly because I was hoping it would get better. This might have worked a little better if the author didn't try to pass it off as her take on P&P.Why didn't it work for me?1) It was a huge stretch to try to compare this storyline or the characters to P&P. "Beth Ann Bennet" is somewhat reserved and unsure of herself. No wit, no impertinence, no fun. (Huh?) "Jane" is outgoing and outspoken. (Huh?) Bingley is rich beyond belief and Darcy is modestly rich. (Huh?) Wickham is basically non-existent in the story because he is the ex-husband of Beth who skipped town. I struggled to see the parallel to P&P storyline. How were these even remotely the same? I have no idea.2) The names were cheesy - which was really distracting. So between being annoyed by the names and trying, but failing, to find the parallels to the original P&P, I couldn't get into this story. The timeline was also way too short. In the span of one month, these two meet, fall in love, and get engaged. Oh, did I mention Beth has a six year old son and Darcy had no interest whatsoever in being in a relationship with a mother with children? One month? Sorry. That didn't work for me. This book was an okay read. I would recommend it to someone who wanted a quick read. I did not like the writing style because it was inconsistent, and did not want you to continue reading. The concept of the plot was interesting but poorly executed. I do NOT like how the author used the same names from Pride and Prejudice, which is one of my favorite books. The ending was really cheesy and it concluded too quickly. Overall, I'd give this book 2.6 stars.
