About book Pretty Baby (2011)

I've been looking forward to this book for a long time, I liked the blurb, loved the title and it apparently had all of the elements I like in an m/m story. It started of well, Tommy Nash meets his mate Elliot at a bar and there is instant chemistry between them. Elliot is sweet and chatty and Tommy is your typically wonderful alpha type. Everything seems to be perfect… and then Elliot meets his family-in-law. The story just went downhill from there. The way Tommy's family kept treating Elliot was ridiculous. Not a word had come out of Elliot's mouth and already Tommy's father was telling his son to get rid of Elliot because his father could cause the pack problems, Tommy's brother Joe acted like he hated Elliot, he was blamed for Nate touching him and collapsing and he was dragged to the kitchen and locked in the pantry! The way Tommy acted before all of this was at best inconsistent. Whenever it was his family he just seemed to stand around watching passively and argue with them half-heartedly. However, whenever it was anybody else he went into protective mode and said he wouldn’t stand around and allow anyone to snap at his mate when he’d just done exactly that?It just seemed so wrong because as much as Nate (in the first book) put the pack in danger when he became Joe’s mate, the Nash family didn’t immediately shun him, in fact they all wanted to protect him. Their behaviour was unreasonable in this book and I kept reading and wondering what on earth was going on. Their response to everything to do with Elliot seemed prejudiced and I was taken aback by the fact that they’re supposed to be shifters who are portrayed as being a lot more tolerant than humans and consider a mate bond sacred, especially if it means their son’s/brother’s/friend’s happiness. As much as I loved each and every one of Stormy Glenn's characters in their respective books, I have to say that this one put me off them a bit. I mean, Chase and Donovan attacked Elliot two seconds after they met him and there was absolutely no bonding between Elliot and his new found family. The brothers and father didn’t seem to care about him at all whilst they apparently longed for their mother and sister.I was disappointed and really surprised because I love Stormy Glenn. I might have even let it all slide if anybody had apologised to Elliot by the end of the book, which they didn't. This is a typical Stormy Glenn book, if you don't like Stormy's work you won't like this book. I have always enjoyed her writing. It's not the greatest literature and has some issues but I'm a happy reader and am usually just looking for a fun read which this was. Elliot was funny. Such a chatter box. Tommy is a big guy with a softie heart. Mayhem with family ensues when they meet. The ending was a little too easy but as I said I am not a complicated reader:)
