Drury continues his alternate history of late Twentieth century America begun with Advise and Consent. The book ends in something of a cheat: an explosion which threatens the husbands and wives of a "unity" Presidential ticket. Only Drury doesn't tell the ready who survives. For the answer you must read not one, but two novels Come Nineveh, Come Tyre: The Presidency of Edward M. Jason and The Promise Of Joy, which extrapolates a potential outcome from either of the men surviving plus the wive of the other candidate. It was okay.
