Precious Consequences was a sweet and heart-warming story with a very important message -- that one can turn a bad decision or mistake into blessings; that no matter the severity of your situation, you must always take responsibility for your actions, be positive and make the best of the situation. That is exactly what Hayley did. Hayley, a 19-year-old girl who got pregnant at a young age is doing her very best to raise her 2-year-old daughter Ari, along w/ the help of her Grandmother. She vows to make her daughter her top priority, even putting her happiness and dating on the back burner, as she is frightened that no one will accept her and her daughter as a package deal. Cam, a typical young playboy, who has absolutely no intention in being in a relationship, bumps into Hayley when her car breaks down. He finds himself unable to think about anyone but her. After weeks of begging, Hayley agrees to go on the date with him, but she doesn’t reveal that she has a daughter. The story is very well written, from the flow and character development, down to the right amount of angst. It definitely elicited so many different emotions out of me. I also appreciated the growth in both Hayley and Cam’s characters and their determination to persevere and try overcome all the secrets from their pasts. Great job to Tamsyn Bester for a fantastic story of young love. Precious Consequences was absolutely precious indeed! I immediately fell in love with all of the characters in this story especially Hayley and Ari. Hayley made a choice to face the consequences of her actions at the age of seventeen a choice she doesn’t regret, now at the age of nineteen she is ready to move forward in her life and build a future for herself and the person that depends on her the most. What she wasn’t ready for was to meet the sexy-stud muffin Cameron Argent. Plagued by his own demons and fear of getting close to someone; Cameron finds something in Hayley that makes him rethink the idea of allowing someone into his heart.I loved Hayley, I can’t say that enough times. She is such a strong, independent character with nothing but heart. She gives herself completely to her responsibilities and she takes the mistakes she made in her pasts and learns from them. I was in awe of her actions throughout the story, there were times when I thought she would for sure breakdown and lose it and she never did. Hayley stayed strong because in her heart she knew she had someone relying on her to do so. She not only stayed strong in the face of rejection or shame but she was even there for Cameron at his worst. Now Cameron, there were some occasions where I wanted to punch him in the face but I did understand his insecurity and guilt and how it played a huge role in how he interacted with Hayley. In the end the two balanced each other; Hayley gave Cameron strength and he in turn gave her love. And I won’t say too much about Ari because she is just a ray of sunshine in this book, the instant she is introduced you are sure to fall head over heels in love with her.I truly enjoyed this story. It was a change of pace for me as a lot of the book had more to do with the characters working through their inner issues versus outside factors affecting their relationships. Precious Consequences was a touching story about moving forward and not living in the past, learning from your mistakes and making sure you don’t repeat them, and finally realizing that everyone deserves love and you should never be afraid to let someone in your heart. There was a phrase in the book that was repeated twice and I thought it was brilliant, just a few words but it packed so much power it was “We’re all strangers until we decide to be friends”. Simply humbling. Fantastic read all around.
