Sabor a chocolate made José Carlos Carmona jump right away on the list of my favourite comtemporary authors. This little book covering eight decades of love and chocolate, music and chess, had contents way over its pages. The concise way of writing was beautiful in its own way – offering new turns of events on every page, giving so many interesting little details but not lingering on anything. There was something so weirdly natural in the way whole marriages, births and deaths happened within a five minutes reading. Also little historical details were a nice touch.I loved the bittersweet lives and loves described in the book. The main characters, Alma and Adrian finally got married after decades. And then Alma died. That's life. In the end it showed a rather optimistic view on how life tends to bring new surprising gifts to you even after you think you’ve lost it all. Life goes on and nothing is serious. I agree with the back cover of the book, the novel is as intense and addictive as the best of chocolates – a really dark, bittersweet chocolate, 90 % cacao. Es un libro de rápida lectura, por la manera tan fluida de narrar del autor. La manera de intercalar el amor, con el juego de ajedrez, es muy interesante; además resalta fechas claves, en la historia mundial, que menciona en ciertos sucesos importantes de la novela, que toman importancia debido a que hacen pensar como al mismo tiempo que sucede algo trascendental en una vida, a la par sucede algo importante en otra. Muy recomendable la lectura.
